SPOTLIGHT ON LOCAL ARTIST PASCAL ATIGA-BRIDGER

If you have visited the Park lately you will have noticed brightly colour containers popping up all over the place!  This is a joint partnership with major sponsor 5+ A Day Charitable Trust and partners Manukau Beautification Trust, Resene and local artists.  Without these organisations and individuals, the Park could not complete this amazing community project.

Who is Pascal?

Pascal is a local multidisciplinary artist who specialises in painting. He is self-employed as a freelance Artist/Muralist.  He graduated with a degree in Creative Arts, (Visual Arts) in 2018 and has been doing street art ever since.

Art has been a passion of Pascal's since he was young and he is mostly self-taught. Pascal says “As an artist, I am always learning how I can better myself when painting murals by trying new skills and techniques along the way. I admire all elements of art, although my favourite would have to be street art. The freedom and flexibility that comes with being outdoors is very rewarding for the mind, body and soul”.

To date, Pascal has painted 6 shipping containers here at Bruce Pulman Park. They all look colourful and vibrant; the blue container is his personal favourite – it is adorned with pictures of Tuis and Kererū.

Pascal looks up to fellow art practitioners established and upcoming in Aotearoa. He has admiration and respect for those artists who push the boundaries. Challenging themselves and their ability.

When asked what inspires Pascal's art he says “The murals I paint are mostly inspired by nature which includes native birds and flora of Aotearoa. The idea is to create artwork that resonates with the local community in my hometown of Papakura”.
